Veterans Day, Remembrance Day, Armistice Day. Whatever you call it, today has a common theme and I've seen posts all over my flist today that are more profound and touching and honest than I think I could be here. My grandfather was in the Air Force during the Korean War, my father was in the Navy during the 70's, and I currently have several friends in the Army National Guard, one of whom is currently in Iraq, one who will be there very soon, and one who is in basic training.

A post by [livejournal.com profile] miss_porcupine showed me to a a group called Soldier's Angels, a volunteer led non-profit group, and a current fundraising campaign, Valour-IT, that provides among other things, voice activated laptops for use by wounded soldiers. Remember how you feel when you're seperated from the internet? Imagine how it would feel to be injured, away from those you love, and unable to contact them in a way that so many take for granted.

Go take a look at the site. It has lots of great ways to donate, from simply giving a one time cash donation, to adopting a soldier for the duration of their deployment.

Today, and everyday, let us remember where we come from, and those who have made and will make huge sacrifices so that we might not have to, and that we might be allowed to live, and live in peace.
